Goats past present and future

You may be wondering what the heck goats have to do with anything?....don't worry, we will get to that.  But first lets talk about trains and how fun they are.  Especially when they bring you your food.

We were able to start our summer with a visit from Ammon's parents.  It was so wonderful having them here and we decided to take them down to Kansas City for a visit.  Of course we had to go to the train restaurant.  We sat right underneith the train tunnel so when the train went to take the food to anyone, it passed right over us. It made me glad that we don't live right next door to the train station cause boy was it noooooisy!  Noisy but very fun.
What hams
Later that night, Papa treated us to a nice steak dinner and the restaurant had private rooms that we got to sit in.  It made me decide to come up with some sort of movable room to take with us to restaurants from now on.  It was so nice to not have to worry about my kids disrupting other guests or running around.  Did I mention that the food was fantastic?  yummy!!

Here is where the goats come in.  No the goats did not come in at the restaurant :-) but the next day.  We all went to the cutest little farm that we will be visiting as often as we can get down to Kansas City called the Deanna Rose Farmstead.  It is designed to be a turn of the century farm to bring the farm to kids living in the city.
As a kid (PAST), my family had goats and chickens.  I was still quite young when we got rid of them but my most vivid memories are in the back yard with the goats and chickens.  I remember bottle feeding the baby goats from those big green glass 7-up bottles with a nipple attached.  I remember the little goats jumping and dancing.  I remember going out with my mom and watching her milk the goats.  I also have many memories of our chickens...particularly of one rooster named BIG CLAW, but that is another story for another time.
Ammon also had goats growing up.  He has told me stories of one of their goats named Lambert who thought he was a dog and would go chase coyotes at night with the other dogs until one night when the coyotes must have realized they had been dooped long enough.
The point is that we have always said that when we get done with school and into a home of our own, we want to raise goats and chickens (FUTURE).  Being here at this Farmstead only solidified that more to us.  We were in heaven.  I think I was just as excited, if not more so to feed these goats.
But maybe I should not have worn black shorts.

Addie and Kimball were in heaven having so many goats interested in them.  They kept nibbling on their clothes or their hair and ears...Let's clarify that it was the GOAT kids and not the HUMAN kids that were nibbling :-)

Do you think that Kimball realizes that he has the wrong end of one of the goats?

Avonlea on the other hand, was not to fond of the goats eating her clothes.
"NO goat NO! No eat my skirt!"
She stuck pretty close to mom and dad.

We could have spent all day in the goat pens but there was so much else to see and do.
Ducks to be chased...
 Fishing to be done...

 Ponies to be ridden

And a farm needing to be plowed

ALL IN A DAY's WORK

And then of course you have to worry about all the wild animals around the farm that need to be reckoned with.

But at the end of the day, there is always time for play

and of course you should always take time to stop and smell the flowers.
These ones in particualr, smell very sweet indeed.
