This last month as I was walking Addie to school, I would often see a whole flock of wild turkeys wandering the streets and lawns....I haven't seen them in a while. Hmm interesting. Oh well, onto other things
THANKSGIVING!! I was a little sad that we would not be making the drive to Utah this year and surprising our family like we did last year. This would be my first Thanksgiving away from family but because of WONDERFUL friends, it was a GREAT Thanksgiving.
The day before was spent making lots and lots of yummy food. I used my mom's recipes and it helped me feel like I was home. Ammon helped me make the pies for the pie fest. Ammon is a GREAT pie maker. Isn't that pie beautiful?
For the turkey this year, we borrowed our neighbors smoker and attempted smoking the turkey....did you hear me say the word attempted? Yeah, this picture is a picture of Nate and Ammon moving the turkey from the smoker to the oven. The smoker was taking a while to heat up to where it needed to be. Our thermometer might have been broken but just to be on the safe side of not getting worms ;-) we cooked it in the oven. The skin ended up black but the turkey tasted great and still had that smoked flavor
Here is Misty watching the boys. Doesn't she look so model-ish
I was really enjoying the dinner and TOTALLY spaced taking any pictures until most the kids had already eaten and gone downstairs to play. I wasn't crazy enough to make them all come back upstairs and re-create the event so this is the only picture I have of our dinner. I didn't even get one of Ammon carving the burnt beast.
Avonlea enjoyed the food and the company
For Thanksgiving, we had our friends Hannah and Matt and their 4 kids (whom Addie tells everyone that they are our distant cousins)
Our friends Jeff and Kristie. They came from SUU too and Jeff is doing pharmacy school with Ammon
Our friends Nate and Misty and their 2 girls. They lived up the road from us in Cedar and have become our 2nd family here in Omaha
and we invited these strange looking people we met in the post office because we figured they were probably homeless and needed a place to go.
The joys of self-timers when they don't work how you expect.
That's better. Kristie had to work so she and Jeff had already left by this point.
That night we had our traditional pie-fest. This picture is missing a few pies. We had several more people over for pie and games and it was YUMMY!!!!
It was such a wonderful day full of great food, friends, games, laughter, and a full tummy and heart. We are so very very blessed and

I think Nate's giving Ammon a jibby in the "self timer" picture haha!
